Miniature Set of Prisoner of War Bone Dominoes
This miniature set of bone dominoes are complete and date from the early nineteenth century. They were probably made by a Napoleonic prisoner of war. They are certainly hand-made and quite crude. They are cased inside their original small mahogany box with sliding lid.
Condition Overall in good condition for their age, with some wear consistent with age and use. As is mentioned above the dominoes are quite crudely made and are not all uniform in terms of size and shape. There is some wear to the colouring and to the dominoes themselves. Some of the corners are chipped and the dominoes are overall grubby. The set is complete. The double four domino has an extra hole in the middle on each side (so that it resembles a double five) but the centre hole has not been coloured in - this appears to be a maker's error. The box is sturdy and in good condition, but has some light scuffing and wear as might be expected.
The approx. measurements are as follows
Domino - 1.4cm long
Box - 5.7cm by 2.2cm, 1.6cm high. Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
