An interesting dated German pewter plate with an engraving in the centre depicting a gentleman and two ladies, on the rim is the date 1690 and the initials H W H. All round the rim is the following wording ‘BILDNIS DES WOHLEHRBAREN CONSVLS VALENTIN DEHMAR V SEINER ZWEITEN TOCHTER HANNA V EVA’ which translates as ‘PORTRAIT OF THE WELL-TEACHABLE CONSVLS VALENTIN DEHMAR V HIS SECOND DAUGHTER HANNA V EVA. This plate is well marked on the back and is in good original condition. Sizes: 9 ¼ “(24cms) diameter, 1”(2 ½ cms) deep. Date circa 1690. I have reluctantly decided that after 60 years spent in this marvellous business it is, figuratively speaking, time to hang up my cheque book.
