Cadbury's Chocolate Sign
A rare and early example of a Cadbury's chocolate advertising sign. This superb sign is from a private collection and is in great condition. Made by the Falkirk Iron Company in the early part of the 20th century. The green and white colours used on this sign along with red and white were eventually replaced by the purple and white which is still used today. Please see the images for the condition of the enamel work as with the majority of signs there is always some wear to them. An enamel sign is a sign made using vitreous enamel. These were commonly used for advertising and street signage in the period 1880 to 1950. Benjamin Baugh created the first purpose-built factory for making such signs in Selly Oak in 1889 — the Patent Enamel Company and with a number of other factories throughout the UK.
