Beautiful Antique Chinese Turquoise Gyanyin
An exceptional carving of Guan-yin, created in China in the latter part of the 1800s.
This spectacular piece features the form of Guan-Yin (or Kuan Yin),goddess of compassion, the most revered and loved of all Chinese dieties. She is beautifully carved and the end of her long gown represents the lotus flower opening at her feet.
Guan-yin has been represented as both male & female, and in pre-revolutionary China, this semi-divine being was honored in virtually every home. This figurine is simply stunning & the carving intricate & detailed.Any dark markings or discolored areas are the natural veins & occlusions of the turquoise & show the high quality & beauty of the stone.
The entire figure has been delicately carved from one piece of pure turquoise, one of the first "gemstones" used by humans and in the orient it was given to protect the riders & their steeds.
She sits upon a beautifully hand-carved rosewood stand made for this small, lovely statue.
Turquoise is difficult to work with, especially in such intricate detailing, but this figure is perfectly exquisite in every respect,a rare and exceptional piece.
Valued by Bonhams 7 years ago at £400 - £600
Museum quality E
It measures just over 3 3/4 inches(9.5cm) tall by 2 1/2 inches(6.3cm) at the widest point.
She is in very good condition, with a minute chip on the cup she is holding and a chip on the back of her scarf also one her shawl. If you are unhappy with any item I offer a money back guarantee once the item is back with me and undamaged.
