This is a beautiful antique Kashgai rug of unusual design, dating from the late 19th century. The rug, from south-west Persia has both stylised animals and plants within its design and has an attractive colour palette of deep blues, amber yellow and a rich earth red field. It has a stepped medallion and is framed by narrow geometric borders. It has some slight overall wear bearing in mind its age but is generally in very good condition. The carpet is a good size and measures 250 cm by 165 cm.
