This is a truly stunning antique Kashan prayer carpet from Central Iran which is part silk which dates from the early 20th century. The finely woven carpet has the most pretty design and colour palette, its soft raspberry field having a tree of life design beneath a hanging lamp under an ornate mihrab. The slender tree, flanked by columns, is supported within what appears to be a fine bamboo or timber frame and is festooned with flowers. The tree has a birds nest with chicks in it and there are many exotic birds in the design.
This carpet is a good size for a prayer rug, measuring 200 cms by 134 cms, and it is in good order. There is a little even wear to the pile and the ends and selvedges are original and complete
