This is an unusual and beautiful antique Indian solid bronze table lamp depicting the god Ganesh. The decorative lamp has the form of a jug with a bird on the handle and a small dish to the front. Ganesh, with elephant trunk is enshrined above the small dish and is guarded by two fo dog temple guardians. Ganesh, also known as Ganapati, is the son of Shiva and Pavati. He is the god of wisdom and learning and also the remover of obstacles. Undoubtedly Ganesh is one of the more lovable and mischievious gods, with his grandfatherly presence and rounded pot belly. The bronze dates from the 18th century and is in perfect condition with a good patina to the bronze. It measures 21 cms high and is 23 cms long.
