This is an impressive ensemble comprising the cast fire back with date of 1679. The word 'pax' can be seen in the casting which we suggest was to show relief that the reign on the monarchy was restored. King Charles ll had returned from France and taken up the throne a little while before. The country was getting back to some normality after the Cromwellian era. The actual basket has been replaced in the past and is not buckled, this sits on a pair of matching cast fire dogs. Also included is a cast fender, which on its own can command a price of around £150 to £200, and some seem to be up to £350. This is in great condition with quite a fine casting. The whole ensemble is offered here for £460, the most competitive package we can see anywhere. DescriptionBack is 60cms wide 72high
