Painted Chest Of Drawers

Photos

Description

This is a stunning Victorian chest of drawers later painted with nautical theme...

The main body of the piece is painted dark green.
On the front is a Royal Naval sailing ship, flying the white ensign. Rope & swirl motifs decorate the surrounds.

The picture is accompanied by the wording
'James Foster' - MATE - 'Jasper out of Plymouth' VR 1863

On the top surface, is an anchor with wording
'GOD SAVE OUR QUEEN'

This is quite a unique piece, due to the ensign being painted incorrectly (the painter was obviously not a sailor)

I have researched both the 'Jasper' and James Foster - and both existed
