Victorian Walnut Writing Slope Tunbridge Ware

Antique Victorian Writing Slope in Stunning Walnut.
A stunning large sized Tunbridge Ware writing slope, which has superb mixed timber inlays.
It has a train line Parquetry banding's to top and front which are made from many various timbers of the time inlaid into the Walnut, fantastic skilled work. Tiny pieces of mixed timbers put together to form these great patterns.
The box has canted corner edges to top.
Circa.1860 to 1880 in date.
The box opens to reveal writing and storage areas, the inner flaps lift up for more storage of papers or desktop items.
The inside has a very nice antique burgundy coloured leather insert with 18 carat gold decorative borders and corner motifs.
Inside also contains a pair lift out inkwell pot's with brass screw off lids.
The whole box is very clean condition for its age, this is an antique box and will show signs of wear and usage only to be expected. Polish/varnish is in very well good condition, with a very nice level of shine to its finish.
Two lift out lidded compartments for pens, nibs etc.
All brass work is functional and well maintained.
Centre brass cartouche to the middle of the top is un-engraved.
Inside has three small secret drawers. These are hidden behind a sprung loaded panel which can be opened by pulling upwards on the inkwell divider as shown in pictures.
Fully working lock and key with tassel for display.
Lid closes well.
Green cloth on underside for protection.
There is no mistaking its unique quality and design, which is sure to make it a treasured piece by any discerning collector.
