White Light. harbour coastal Cornwall
“White light”. (90 X 76cm). Julian spends much time in exploration of the fleeting states of light along the coastal zones. This painting portrays one such effect. Here the evening sun has broken through and the little fishing boat is suspended in stark contrast between sky and wet sand. The simplicity of this work is what gives it its value. That moment when the vessel seems to float not on water but in the air. The abstraction of the paint strokes is integral to this, the scene bursts upon us in powerful, energised paint.
