We have a Victorian writing box in rosewood veneers with brass banding. The rosewood has a very attractive figure. The original finish has not been stripped, but it was very worn so we have applied a few rubbers of french polish and a good waxing to improve the colours of the piece without destroying the fine patina.

The top and front have brass banding which is in excellent condition, there is a decorative diamond shaped brass insert in the top and a brass escutcheon on the front. All is surrounded by ebony and boxwood inlays. The key works.

Inside there is a black leather skiver with gold tooling. This has been repaired. Please see the photographs. There are storage compartments underneath the writing slopes. There are no ink pots.The green baize on the bottom is in very good condition.
