Victorian Rosewood writing box
A charming Victorian rosewood veneered writing box.
The box has a double hinged lid, opening up to reveal 2 inkwells and a pen tray. The inkwells fit will into the box, so I assume that they are original to the box, both inkwells are stained with ink, the glass is in good condition, there are a few dents to the lids which are designed to just rest on the top of the inkwells rather than be hinged.
There is a small drawer in the base of the box, with dovetail joints, it is in sound condition and runs well.
The box has a delightful, turned handle.
There is some loss of veneer and a small split to the veneer to the base of the box on both sides (see pictures).
The box measures approximately 24 cm (9.5 inches) long, by 14.5 cm (5.75 inches) deep, by 9 cm (3.5 inches) high. The turned handle is an additional 5 cm (2 inches) in height.
