This is an imposing oil on canvas painting by Charles Thomas Bale (fl 1866 - 1890). The painting is a still life of fruit and game. The well executed painting is in typical deep and dramatic colours. This is a good size, measuring 98 cms by 73 cms including the frame. The painting is signed to the lower right. Charles Thomas Bale was a prolific still life painter based in London in the third quarter of the 19th century. Records show that he exhibited his work from roughly 1866-1890, there is no official note of the date of his death. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and at Suffolk Street in 1872 whilst living at No. 9 Poland Street.
