This is a stunning quality antique English carved mahogany rococo style occasional armchair with brass inlay, circa 1880.

This is a stunning quality antique English carved mahogany rococo style occasional armchair with brass inlay, circa 1880. The chair features a superb quality central carved floral back and central floral splat. The frame, back, arms and front legs are inlaid with brass work, which is a sign of the quality of the craftsmanship. The elegant scrolling arms terminate with carved acanthus leaves. The front legs are cabriole shaped and the back is shaped too, which is another sign of superior quality. The chair is very comfortable as it features a saddle shaped seat.
Rococo was an 18th-century artistic movement and style, which affected several aspects of the arts including painting, sculpture, architecture, interior design, decoration, literature, music and theatre. It takes its name from the French rocaille (pronounced 'rock-eye'), which means the rock or broken shell motifs that often formed part of the designs. The Rococo developed in the early part of the 18th century in Paris, France as a reaction against the grandeur, symmetry and strict regulations of the Baroque, especially that of the Palace of Versailles. The Rococo style was used primarily in antique furniture, silver and ceramics, rather than architecture.

We will collect the item using our specialist Furniture Delivery Company to avoid any damage. We do not accept returns via a courier service due to experience of damaged items in transit.
