Victorian Arts and Crafts inlaid oak armchair
This is a very good large and unusual armchair. It is Victorian and made in oak and is in high end Arts and Crafts design.
The armchair has wonderful inlay to the top rail and splat. The inlay is in a trailing tulip design with boxwood, mahogany, sycamore? and satinwood inlay. The tulip shaped top to the risers are inset with what looks like pewter disks. These discs are also inset in to the arm supports. The chair has larged shaped arms and the front legs terminate in pad feet. The chair is upholstered in what is probably its original rexine covering. The rexine is in good condition.
This is a standout armchair. There is half a label under the chair but I am not able to discern the makers name.
The chair is in good condition. The joints are solid. No sign of worm. A slither of the edge of the tulip shaped top of one riser is missing. See photo.
This is a beautiful and opulent period Arts and Crafts chair and will look good in a house furnished in Arts and Crafts or period furnishings.
The chair back is 45 inches high and the seat is 18 inches high and it is 26 inches from outside arm to outside arm.
