Victorian Adams Style Oval Gilt-Framed Mirror
This lovely mirror is in the neoclassical style of the Adams brothers. It dates from approx. 1860. It has a wooden and gesso decorative frame that is gilt-painted. Above the mirror frame is a Grecian urn flanked on either side with trailing foliage with bows at either side, and beneath the mirror are vines / foliage - all gilt-painted gesso. The mirror is oval in shape with a wide bevel edge.
Condition Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition, with some wear and damage consistent with age and use. There is some significant loss and cracking to the gesso decoration, which is down to the metal wire in places. The top bows are bent out of shape. The central urn is slightly twisted. There is some rubbing, wear and grubbiness to the gilt paintwork. There is some surface scratching and wear to the mirror and some slight corrosion to the backing. There is a small flake to the back of the glass on the right-hand side. There are various holes on the back of the wooden frame where brackets have been screwed in and moved over the years.
The approx. measurements are as follows
Frame - 94.5cm high, 111cm wide, 5cm deep (to maximums)
Mirror - 48cm high, 82.5cm wide (to maximums).
