An exquisitely beautiful Victorian 9 ct gold brooch made before 1891 set with a diamond in excellent condition. This Etruscan Revival brooch is intricately wrought & very beautiful. In the early 1800s excavations had unearthed the Etruscan jewellery / jewelry in the tombs just outside Rome. These spectacular & meticulously ornamented pieces inspired the revival movement. As you can imagine these jewels particularly appealed to the Victorians. This brooch is a super example of Victorian Etruscan Revival jewellery with minutely engraved details layer upon layer. There is an engraved silver plaque which is inscribed 'Mrs. J. Green from Leicester Daledonian Society 1891'. This plaque can be removed. The pin & clasp are in excellent working order. The brooch is not hallmarked & it was quite common for Victorian gold not to be hallmarked which is why we have performed an acid test. This piece tests as 9 ct gold. Measures 1 1/4" & weighs 5.1 grams with the silver plaque removed.
