A wonderfully large size oil painting on canvas, this is likely a 19th century rendition of a 17th century nobleman, Sir Simon Harcourt, who was an English soldier of fortune fighting mainly in Continental Europe, particularly the Netherlands. He was knighted at Whitehall Palace in 1627, which is the date on the face of the painting. He became governor of Dublin in 1641.

In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. There are some scuffs around the bottom area, but there are no rips in the face of the canvas.
