US Sterling Silver Baby Fork, ISC, c.1920s
This is a good quality US Sterling Silver Baby Fork. The fork is made in the "Shakespear" pattern by renowned American firm the International Silver Company (ISC) and dates to around the 1920s. The ISC was formed in 1898 in Meriden, Connecticut by banding together a number of existing silver manufacturers in the area. Meriden earned the nickname "Silver City" because of the large number of silver companies in and around the city. ISC was a very successful company that continued to manufacture up until the early 1980s.
The baby fork has four prongs. The stem is double struck with a thread around the edge and a basket and flowers design. Unusually for a baby fork, which are often given as christening gifts, it has no initials or name engraved on it.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the most superficial surface wear. Despite its age it doesn't appear to have seen a lot of use and was probably kept as a presentation item. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The fork is 10.7cm / 4.25" long and weighs in at a very respectable 16.1g / 0.57oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The underside of the stem is stamped STERLING and has the Native American head mark of the International Silver Company.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
