A wonderful and most unusual box dating to around 1900, English or French in origin made from exquisite Amboyna wood, the most expensive timber in the world.

The top of the lid is inlaid with brass stringing and the edges and corners are trimmed in Tortoiseshell.

The top of the box is mounted with a hand-painted watercolour of two birds, signed. The picture is framed in a sterling silver frame and protected by the original slightly domed glass.

The box opens to reveal a dual compartment interior, re-lined with a hand-marbled paper, creating a fresh and clean finish.

Excellent condition, measuring 8 1/4" x 4 3/4" x 2 3/4".
