An elegant mid-century Stratton set in the original presentation case. This delightful set has never been used and both accessories are in new old stock condition. Both items were coated at the point of manufacture with a layer of lacquer which means they will never tarnish nor need to be cleaned. The powder compact is a Stratton 'Princess' with a 'barley corn' engine turned design on the lid. The indented edges are engraved with beautiful scroll work. A circular central cartouche completes the tasteful design. All clasps & hinges on both items work perfectly. This 1950s compact mirror is fitted with a self-opening inner lid. A mechanism which the owners of the Stratton brand patented. Tilt the mirror lid back a little and this activates the opening mechanism. It works perfectly every time. A beautiful artisan made set in they hey day of this brand. The inner lid is decorated with the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo, engraved within a square cartouche. The Stratton signature clearly visible below this logo. The rest of the inner lid is decorated with fine vertical lines. The original unused fabric puff and velour edged sifter are present. The base is decorated with the famous all over star design. The lipstick holder is decorated with the same design as seen on the inner lid of the compact - fine vertical lines. The lipstick holder interior works perfectly- rising up to the top when the base is twisted. The presentation case is also beautifully made - a smart beige colour on the exterior lid and base. The interior lid appears to be silk and it is signed 'Stratton'. The interior base and hinge are lined with red velvet which is set over custom made recesses for the compact and lipstick holder. The hinges / clasps work perfectly on the case too.
