Ugo Baracco Signed Ltd.Ed. Etching Venice Carnival
We are delighted to offer this large Limited Edition and Signed Etching with aquatint by the Italian artist Ugo Baracco, who has signed the etching below the plate in the right hand corner and numbered it to the left 26/80. The etching depicts three masked figures dressed in typical costume for the world famous Venice Carnivale, which is held every year in February. The Lady in the foreground is wearing a powdered wig, carrying an ostrich feather fan and holding a fringed mask up to the eyes. The gentleman standing with her is wearing a frock coat, a powdered wig pulled back into a queue and a tricorn hat, with a white mask over two thirds of his face. The pair are being observed by a fully masked figure in a long, cloaked garment and large fabric headdress. They are standing alongside a canal, with a bridge behind them and surrounded by Venetian buildings, some of which having ornate balconies.
Ugo Baracco was born in Padova (Padua) in 1949. He moved to Venice in the early 1970s as a student at the Accademia delle Belle Arte and has lived there ever since. He painted landscapes and portraits and began experimenting with various printmaking techniques such as etching, mezzotint, aquatint, as well as perfecting his individual techniques.
He uses an antique process where he covers a copper or zinc plate with a waxy substance. The design is drawn onto the wax with a sharp point to expose the metal. The plate is then immersed in acid to etch the exposed areas. Although a print, each of his etchings are original in that the artist hand colours the plate individually before printing onto hand made paper.
Ugo Baracco is known for his autumnally hued etchings of Venetian scenes and he has exhibited in Europe, North America, Asia, Australia and Russia and his work is part of the collection of the Italiam Embassy to the United Nations in New York, as well as in private collections world wide.
The etching is glazed, double mounted in two-tone and framed in a 1 1/2" limed wooden frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
Image size: 13 1/2" x 10 7/8" - 34.25cm x 27.75cm
