Interesting oil on artist's paper view of London at Tower bridge. The painting shows a boat sailing down the Thames with Tower bridge in the background. There is a great deal of ability shown in the painting, yet sadly it is not signed, I particularly like the sun coming up the river and shining yellow on the water, and the smog hanging around the bridge obscuring the supports. The London that can be seen in the painting and the fact that it is worked on paper dates the work to around the war, when canvas for painting was difficult to obtain. The painting has a great atmosphere about it, and really represents London of the period. The work has been mounted in a vintage silvered frame, which has the odd mark but nothing distracting. The painting has been cleaned and varnished and is in excellent condition, the texture of the paper does show through but this is just part of the charm of the work. C.1940.
