Born in Savananah America, returned to his ancestral home in 1812, active in Edinburgh. Member of the Royal Scottish Academy
The Gleaner, 1825. Oil on board in good condition. Very nicely framed, not original frame.
Comes with letter from National Gallery of Scotland establishing Thomson as the artist. (see image) The painting was exhibited in the National Gallery in 1827.
The artist is very well known for his miniature portraits and is very well collected internationally. Several of his works are on display at the Met in NYC
