Born in Glasgow 1848-1910. Was a painter, etcher and watercolourist, specialising in pastoral landscapes.
His father was portrait painter, Norman Macbeth.
From 1871 he exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Fine Art Society in London.
