'The Blackheath Golfer' Mezzotint Signed Proof
Engraver William Henderson
Title The Golfer of Blackheath
Medium Mezzo-Tint Engraving
Details Reproduction of Lemuel Francis Abbott's 1790 painting, a portrait of golfer William Innes. Engraver's proof. Published in 1915 by Vicars Brothers of London. Signed by the engraver in pencil below the picture. There is an impressed blind stamp for the Print Seller's Association at the other side below the picture, and the publisher details are printed along the top of the picture. Mounted and framed in a vintage glazed stained oak frame with tramlining around the front.
Condition Overall in fair to good condition. The print does have some discolouration and is a little faded. There is some foxing (brown spotting), primarily around the edges and partcularly to the bottom of the print. The mount is a little discoloured and has some creasing and tape marks - the engraving would benefit from being re-mounted. The oak frame has some scuffing, wear and grubbiness consistent with age and use. It has some paint flecking (also affecting the glass).
The approx. measurements are as follows
Image - 37cm by 49.5cm
Frame - 75.5cm by 99cm.
Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
