Terence Loudon Oil on Canvas Still Life of Flowers
Just arrived - a wonderful oil on canvas still life study by the prolific, listed painter of flowers, Terence Loudon (active 1900 - 1949).
This painting represents an outstanding example of Loudon's work and must rank as one of the finest paintings he made.
The blooms include rose, white flox, poppy, delphinium and honeysuckle, all arranged in a pewter urn of classical form and resting upon a ledge. It is signed to the lower right.
This is an impressive work of art and a particularly well-proportioned one - large enough to make a statement yet not so large as to limit where it can be hung and appreciated.
It is presented in a good quality, wide, gilt-plaster frame, which sets the painting off to great effect.
Provenance - Sotheby's, Bilingshurst, West Sussex. Sale 25th May 2000, lot 2050 (page 15 of the catalogue).
A very special gift for the flower-loving person, or, a superb addition to an exisiting collection of botanical art.
