Stunning Pictorial Oasis Nantanz Kashan Prayer Car handwoven woollen persian %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a super Nantanz Kashan prayer rug which dates from around 1920. The carpet has a bright and cheerful colour palette and a wonderful design which features a beautiful oasis scene to its central pictorial medallion and deep borders filled with grazing animals, birds and temples. Nantanz is a village near Kashan where smaller rugs were woven which were exceptionally fine, often with a mihrab.
The prayer carpet has just a little wear to the fringe at one end, the selvedges are complete and the pile is quite full and soft.
It measures 202 cms by 134 cms and would make a very nice wall hanging.
