Stoodley Pike by Bohuslav Barlow (b. 1947)

We have for sale a very striking oil painting of the well known Calder Valley Pennine landmark Stoodley Pike by the excellent and well loved internationally renowned Northern artist Bohuslav Barlow.
This large and rather imposing contemporary oil painting on canvas by well known Yorkshire artist Bohuslav Barlow depicts sheep against the backdrop of the monument on Stoodley Pike at sunset. The painting is signed by the artist to the bottom right, although the signature is partially obscured by the frame.
The painting is 34.5 inches (87.6cm) wide by 32.75 inches (83.2cm) high including the original silver and gold frame. The picture and frame are both in an excellent ready to hang condition.
About the Artist
Bohuslav Barlow was originally born in Bruntal Czechoslovakia and named Bohuslav Klos in 1947. However his family escaped from Czechoslovakia to live in Furstenfeldbruk near Munich. His mother then moved to England leaving Bohuslav in the care of his grand parent. Bohuslav then followed his mother to the UK to live in Blackpool with his Stepfather from whom he adopted the family name Barlow. Bohuslav Barlow studied at Manchester School of Art and then progressed to the Central School of Art in London, where he taught for a term. As a result of passing through Todmorden in Yorkshire on his way to Blackpool Bohuslav fell in love with the stunning Yorkshire scenery in the Calder Valley and surrounding area, so much so that he moved to Todmorden aged 26. Bohuslav still lives in Todmorden where he has a studio in Robinwood Mill, Burnley.
Bohuslav Barlow has held numerous sole exhibitions including Hartnoll and Eyre in London, Woodlands Green in Greenwich, Manor House at Ilkley, Richard Parks Gallery in the USA, Lancaster Museum, Zantman Gallery in California, the Harrogate Municipal Gallery and the Posk Gallery, London to name but a few. He has had works in a large number of prestigious exhibitions including The Royal Academy, The Royal Society of Paiters Etchers and Engravers, the Contemporary Art Fair in London, the Leeds Art Fair, the Fine Art Society Tatton Park Manchester, The House of Commons Gallery in London, the Yorkshire Watercolour Society in Harrogate, the Beatrice Royal Gallery in Southampton and the Campden Gallery in Chipping Campden.
