A wonderful still life oil on canvas of a jug full of bright orange flowers. The work is wonderfully done in thick impasto paint particularly the flowers which burst off the canvas. The use of colour is superb with the flowers contrasting perfectly with the dark blue fabric in the background. The work is in excellent condition having been professionally cleaned. The painting is signed to the lower right M.E.Oddie. Mary Oddie exhibited between 1931 and 1937 at the Royal Cambrian Academy, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and at Coolings and Sons Gallery in London. She lived in Uckfield in Sussex. This piece is most likely an exhibited work and is the best painting I have seen by the artist. The work retains the original frame which has a great worn gilded finish. The whole is a fine piece with a wonderful dramatic presence. C.1930.
