We are pleased to offer for sale this beautifully executed, large, Still Life Oil Painting on Canvas in a gilt swept frame, signed by the artist G. Wood in the lower right hand corner. Unfortunately, we have been unable to discover any information about the artist, so it could be a pseudonym. There was an American artist by the name of Grant Wood, but he died in 1942 and we are sure that he didn't paint this oil.

The painting depicts a bowl of flowers on a stone slab surrounded by an abundance of fuit positioned with a landscape of a bend in a river in the distance to the left. The ceramic bowl contains an assortment of foliage and flowers, including roses, dahlias, tulips, ears of corn, delphiniums and auriculas to name a selection. The fruit includes a melon, bunches of purple, red and green grapes, a lemon, a lime, cherries, pomegranates, corn on the cob, plums, apples and a pear. On the far right of the painting there is a blue parrot, obviously attracted by the abundant display of fruits.

The painting is framed in a 2 1/2 inch swept gilt frame and slip, which suits it very well. It will be supplied with all new brass hangers, new brass picture wire and will be ready to hang.
