Silver Plate Muffin Dish, Mappin & Webb, 1890-1910
This is a striking late 19th / early 20th century Silver Plate Muffin Dish. The three part muffin dish (named for their shape) is circular with fan and bead decoration around the rim of the base, a plain inner tray and a high domed lid with an urn shaped finial.
Muffin dishes are very versatile serving dishes. You can put hot water in the base to keep food warm or ice to keep food cold. You can remove the inner tray and use it as a deeper serving dish and the inner tray can be used by itself as an open serving dish. This would make a distinguished addition to any dining table.
The muffin dish is made by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb as part of their Prince's Plate range, their finest quality silver plate. It dates to around the late Victorian or Edwardian eras, c.1890 to c.1910.
Condition is good with just a slight distortion at one point on the rim of the lid. There is no significant plate loss, just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after well over 100 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The muffin dish is 19.5cm / 7.6ins in diameter across the rim of the base and stands 14.4cm / 5.6ins high. It weighs 779g / 27.5oz.
The underside of the base is marked Triple Deposit, Mappin & Webb's Prince's Plate, London & Sheffield.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
