Silver hunter Brandt Omega pocket watch & chain
Silver half hunter Louis Brandt / Omega pocket watch.
The watch has an unsigned movement, known as the serpentine calibre. Some of these movements were marked with various names such as Regina or Decimal but this one is unsigned. However, it is identifiable as being Brandt / Omega by various components within the movement. The same movement was also produced in small batches for the European market and these were signed with the Omega logo.
The serial number on the movement, 2,461,053, dates it back to the early 1900s, when Louis Brandt & Frére was on the cusp of becoming Omega in 1903. The movement is protected by an inner silver cover.
The watch itself measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the covers for London (import mark) 1917. The sponsor's mark is for Louis Weill, a high class retailer and importer who often imported Omega watches.
The date of the movement and the case differ by some 15 years. However we have come across several examples in our records that have this same variation. This suggests that older stocks of movements were cased at a later date. The case has a small lens to the front, surrounded by enamel filled Roman numerals. The case is in good condition with just the odd minor “ding”.
The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover. Inside there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition. The rose gold plated bezel is a later replacement.
The white enamel dial has several hairline cracks in the bottom right hand quadrant. Blued steel hands (including the special half hour hand so that the time can be read, and the hands distinguished between, when the front cover is closed).
The watch comes on a heavy silver double albert, with each chain measuring 27cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. The T-bar is hallmarked for 1914, and each of the links has the lion passant silver mark.
There is currently a silver and enamel football fob from Youths & Old Boys Birmingham Football Club fitted to the chain but we have other alternatives if preferred.
The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
