Shades of Evening, Oil Paintining by Frank Hider
We have for sale a very striking original oil painting on canvas by the excellent and quite prolific Victorian/early 20th Century artist Frank Hider (1861-1933).
This lovely painting is typical of Frank Hider's work showing a beautifully executed sunset highland scene depicting a forested river valley with a fisherman. The painting is signed by the artist to the bottom right and carries the title "Shades of Evening to the reverse of the canvas. The picture is mounted in a good replacement gilt frame.
The painting is 18 inches (45.7cm) high and 14 inches (35.5cm) wide excluding the the frame. The painting is in a good original condition with no craquelure although, there is a small loss of pigment about 1.5 inches below the upper part of the frame, where at some point the picture has been incautiously laid down.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
The Southwark born artist Frank Hider (1861-1933) was a prolific professional artist who painted landscapes and coastal scenes from around the UK in oils and watercolours. Surprisingly he seldom exhibited during his lifetime but is particularly well known and regarded for his vibrant depiction of sunsets and stormy coastal scenes. Two of his children, Christopher George (C G Hider) and Mable also became artists.
