Set of 4 18th Century Ornithological Engravings
An unusual set of 4 18th Century copper plate engravings by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon. Buffon devoted much of his life to the study of natural history and this set of 4 engravings are wonderfully detailed studies of beaks. The quality of the drawing is superb and the set are printed on the original handmade Whatman paper. Each print is beautifully hand coloured in the subtle palette of the 18th Century. In superb condition, the set have been expertly framed with a deep inner slip framing the image in a subtle antique gold. The high quality outer frame has been chosen to work in a traditional or modern setting.
