Scratch Built Model Of HMS Victory In 1805
We are pleased to offer for sale this scratch built Model of HMS Victory on a wooden stand. This model is part of a small collection of nautical items that we will be listing and were created by a very clever man, now sadly deceased, who lived in the Kent/Sussex area. We have learned that he was a teacher and died in the 1980s and his models must have taken him many, many hours of work to complete, with all their minute details.. She is shown as she looked in 1805 at the Battle of Trafalgar, with yellow and black stripes and red gun ports, and in her current livery at Portsmouth Dockyard.
HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is best known for her role as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805.
She additionally served as Keppel's flagship at Ushant, Howe's flagship at Cape Spartel and Jervis's flagship at Cape St Vincent. After 1824, she was relegated to the role of harbour ship.
In 1922, she was moved to a dry dock at Portsmouth, Great Britain, and preserved as a museum ship. She has been the flagship of the First Sea Lord since October 2012 and is the world's oldest naval ship still in commission, with 243 years' service as of 2021.
Unfortunately, shipping this model would be impossible, so it must be collection only. It may be possible to arrange transportation by private courier, depending upon the location of the purchaser.
