Scottish Silver Kirkcaldy Swimming Club Medal 1860 %%alt5%%
A very good and rare, antique Victorian Scottish Silver Kirkaldy Swimming Club Medal dating from c1860.
The medal engraved "Kirkaldy Swimming Club, 1860".
Also it was awarded for "First Prize, Fast Swimming, 300 Yards, Gained by ....". Unfortunately the name of winner of the medal has not been added therefore we do not know the original recipient.
The medal is hallmarked with the Monarch's Head duty mark (Queen Victoria), the maker's mark "JM" probably for James McKay, the Scottish "thistle" sterling silver mark, the Edinburgh "castle" town mark and date letter "C" for 1859/60.
The circular medal measures approximately 1 3/4" inches (44mm) in diameter (excluding the suspension loop). The weight is 17.9g.
It is in excellent condition.
