We are offering for sale this beautifully serene sunset oil on canvas by the artist ROGER DE LA CORBIERE, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The artist has written in his own hand 'Plougrescant Cote du N.' on the edge of the canvas where is wraps around the stretcher. Plougrescant is a small coastal town on a peninsula in Brittany. The painting depicts the setting sun falling on the waves slowly breaking on the beach, with a rocky headland silhouetted against the sky to the left with a further rocky promontory to the right.

ROGER DE LA CORBIERE, 1893-1974, was a French artist who was born in Vienna. He studied under the Russian painter Choltse, who was a great exponent of light and shade particularly in snow scenes. He exhibited at the Paris Salon for 35 years, receiving the Silver Medal in 1954. In 1957 he received the Bronze Medal from the Salon des Independants. The French State acquired several of his paintings in 1925. His painting are in the collections of many well known persons throughout the world.

He worked mainly from his studio in Brittany, but also spent some time in the Riviera. His daughter carried on the family tradition, painting similar scenes.

The painting is framed in a 3" silver grey ornate frame and will be supplied with all new brass fittings and new brass picture wire. It will be ready to hang.
