Roger de la Corbiere 1893-1974 Oil Brittany Coast
This auction is for a beautifully serene oil on canvas by the artist ROGER DE LA CORBIERE, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. According to the Stacy-Marks gallery label verso (as shown) the date the painting was acquired by the gallery, or the date it was painted was 1953, but we are not sure which is correct. The gallery has titled the painting Perros-Guirec, but the artist has written in his own hand 'Environs de Perros-Guirec (Cote du N)'. Perros-Guirec is a small coastal town on a peninsula on the north coast of Brittany. The painting depicts the setting sun reflecting on the waves gently lapping on the sandy beach, with a rocky headland silhouetted against the sky with a further distant headland beyond and a group of rocky islands out to sea.
PLEASE NOTE - It has not proved possible to exactly capture the colouring of the painting in our images. It has a more mauve/pinky tone than that shown. The best portrayal of the colouring is in Image No. 3.
