A very atmospheric and decorative oil on canvas landscape scene by H.Melsen. The work is painted in thick impasto oils and has a feel of Van Gogh type impressionism. The scene is typical of impressionist type work with broad brushstrokes, a thick impasto paint, and a scene of rural simplicity. The painting is signed ‘H.Melsen’ a name I am unable to identify, there is a famous Belgium artist called Martin Melsen and it does bare some relation to his work, it may be by a family member, it does give an idea as to the country of origin. The painting is in excellent condition having been professionally cleaned. It is mounted in a very good quality modern bespoke antiqued gilt frame. The whole has a great decorative appeal and is an interesting painting, very capably done. C.1930.
