Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Regency mahogany cheval mirror, circa 1820, which is in good original condition. Incorporating a cross-banded mahogany frame, the full-length rectangular mirror can be adjusted to suit your preferred viewing angle. The frame retains its original glass mirror, which is nice to see. Consequently, there is some minor foxing and marks (please see photos), but it does not warrant the mirror being replaced. If you do want the mirror replacing with a new piece of glass, it would cost £90. The back of the mirror retains its original backboard. The mirror is supported by the original decorative brass threaded knobs either side of the vertical supports, which are decorated with finely tuned urns above. The frame below is supported by a shaped stretcher, above splayed legs, terminating on the original brass lion paw toes and brass castors.
The cheval mirror boasts a rich brown mahogany colour. As its boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
The mirror is a good practical piece of antique furniture, it’s not too large and not too small, and therefore, it can be used in most locations. The mirror would look superb in several rooms from the hallway to the bedroom. The mirror would certainly grace any home and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don't miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.
Condition Report:
The cheval mirror is in good original condition. Nominal old use marks the leading edges of the mahogany frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The mahogany cross-banding to the mirror frame is intact and in excellent condition. The frame retains its original glass mirror consequently, there is some minor foxing and marks to the glass (please see photos). However, it does not warrant the mirror being replaced, as the cheval mirror is more valuable if it retains its original mirror. If you do want the mirror replacing with a new piece of glass, it would cost £90. The mahogany frame of the cheval mirror is in good condition with no damage it is solid in joint. The frame retains its original brass castors toes and wheels. This item is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to be used.
