A rare 1956 Stratton Miraclean (Large) - Quirky And Unusual Powder Compact.
As seen in Juliette Edward's 'The Stratton Key' - the expert's painstakingly detailed guide to Stratton powder compacts.
This powder compact was only available in 1956. Its distinguishing feature is an internal mirror- wiping mechanism.
As you can see from image three when the compact is opened the cleaning mechanism moves from the top of the mirror down to the bottom. The material on the Miraclean mechanism ensures the mirror is clean - ingenious! The mirror is excellent & gives a very good reflection. Both the lid & base have attractive engine turned designs.The mirror bezel is stamped with three different patent numbers & 'FOREIGN PATS PENDING MADE IN ENGLAND'. The inner lid is decorated with horizontal lines & the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo. This logo is the trademark for the self-opening inner lid mechanism that Stratton patented. Tilt the mirror back slightly to release the catch on the inner lid. It still works perfectly. The base is also decorated with horizontal lines.
The compact is in excellent working order.

This Stratton 'Miraclean' powder compact measures 3" & weighs 117.7 grams.
