This is a rare & exceptionally well made Stratton Lipstick Mirror made in the 1950s. The mirror is covered by the most wonderful enamel screen with a romantic scene. The gentleman is embracing the lady & his left hand is pointing to what looks like a tablet of stone inscribed 'SERMENT. The tablet is being held upright by two delightful cherubs. This scene is copied from the 18th century painting 'The Sermon of Love'. The whole scene is minutely detailed & in excellent condition. This is quite remarkable as this scene slides out to reveal the mirror & it still works perfectly. The mirror is excellent & gives a very good reflection. The lipstick case is sound & the original lipstick is still in place. A small amount of red lipstick still to be seen & the winder on the tube still works which is a treat. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The Stratton signature can be seen on the brass fan shaped rim. The word 'Stratton' in beautiful script with 'RD. 873269 MADE IN ENGLAND U.S.A. DES. PAT. 175783'.
This rare & highly collectible vintage lipstick mirror measures 2 1/2" wide X 2 1/4" tall & weighs 55 grams.
