Rare Solid Gold Paul Louchet Eve Serpent Ring
Wimbledon-Furniture
Wimbledon-Furniture is delighted to offer for sale this incredibly rare original Art Nouveau French solid gold ring on Eve in a crouched position with the serpent at her feet and the forbidden fruit either side attributed to the great Paul Louchet.
A truly stunning and emotive ring, as soon as I saw it I had to own it, Jewellery used to mean something, this piece has so much to say about original sin, you could discuss it for hours, I love the sorrow in her position, its something that everyone can associate with in one form or another.
Size, Europe 57.0, USA Canada 8, UK P & 1/2 , Asia 16, Switzerland 17 ¾
Dimensions Height 2.4cm Width 2.2cm Depth 2cm
This ring is attributed to the great Paul Louchet, a brief biography can be read as below
Paul Louchet was trained by Jules Lefebvre and Henri Harpignies. He exhibited at the Paris Salon. He began to work the technique of carving, his studio was at no 3, Rue Auber, in the 9th district of Paris and his creations are sometimes identifiable with the stamp of Louchet Foundry Paris
Friend of Majorelle, Daum and Lalique, he was president of the Chamber of Manufacturers of Bronze, Mayor of the city of Herblay in 1887, he raised strong protests (with a trial that was lost) against the spill of the sewers of Paris in the plains of Achères.
The epidemic of typhoid took his fifteen year old daughter and, distraught, Paul Louchet abandoned business from 1890 to devote himself to painting, He was also a sculptor and etcher.
Friend of Henri Harpignies with whom he painted in the forest of Fontainebleau, also posing his easel in the region of Melun and Meaux, even making a trip to North Africa where he had made landscapes that are distinguished by an iridescent light that is particular to him.
