A Rare Medieval Carved Purbeck Stone Four Pot Mortar.
From A 15th Century Somerset Long House.
Two Pots To Each Surface.
Original Tactile Purbeck Stone Pestle.
Wonderful Weathered Patination To The Stone Surface.
Monumental Scale Weighing Over 60 Kg.
19 Inches Long.
13 Inches Deep.
9 Inches High.
A Four Pot Mortar Is Unusual And It's Assumed May Have Been Hewn For Apothecary Use Or Maybe For A Follower Of "The Craft"
N.b The House walls are decorated with scratched medieval graffiti which I hope to be able to add to this listing at a later date.
