This is a rare and beautiful tribal Jaf Kurd Sanjabi rug from The Iran / Iraq border area which dates from the late 19th / early 20th century. The rug has the most wonderfully vibrant colours with an indigo compartmetalised field of polychrome hooked hexagons enclosed by similar colourful borders. It has a marvellously quirky border which steps in unexpectedly at one end and the whole rug is in very good condition for its age with light overall wear but no damage or restoration. The wool is soft and lustrous and it looks great down, and of course makes a very practical carpet. It is generous in size for a Jaf Kurd measuring 224 cms by 132 cms and would add great charm and character to any room.
