A wonderful pristine example of a travelling vesta or match strike covered in a black leather. The push button to the front releases the sprung lid to reveal a lavishly gilded interior. It looks to be unused for the last 140 years.

The strike plate sits to the top, this hinged lid in turn opens to reveal the chamber where the (non-safety) matches would have been stored.

Victorian in era and English in origin, dating to around 1880. 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" x 1 1/4" tall.
