Quality 19th C. Gilt Plaster Swept Picture Frame

A Fine Antique Gilt Plaster Picture Frame.
Dating to the early - mid 19th century.
Of stunning, elaborate, 'swept' symmetrical design with the most splendid foliate scrollage, set in high relief.
A beautiful, high quality frame with design cues echoing the earlier Rococo movement.
The frame is well-used with an old gilt patina (quite possibly the original gilding). It's an unusual find for such an elaborate frame in that it is virtually complete, with no significant loss or remodelling - just some stress cracks and a couple of very small and inconsequential fragments having been tacked back into place but virtually complete and original.
Frames of this delicate and highly vulnerable design are seldom found in such honest and original condition. Your choice is nearly always an inferior modern example or an older frame with repairs and remodelling with later gilding that is a poor match to the surrounding original.
This example is a beauty and a rare survivor that is simply not to be missed.
Would make a stunning frame for a 19th century work or perhaps adapted for a mirror.
Please check the measurements of your artwork carefully before committing to purchase. Thank you.
Dimensions -
The overall / outermost measurements, 64 cms wide x 80 cms high
Main Frame rebate, approx, 49.5 x 65 cms
Rebate of the gilt slip, approx, 45.8 x 61 cms
(The gilt slip could be adapted slightly, if necessary).
Condition:
In well-used antique condition. The gilding is old and just possibly, original. Good, old worn patina as shown. Some surface wear and loss to the gilded surface commensurate with age and use. Hairline and stress cracks to the old plaster are present - normal and very typical of moulded gilt plaster from this period. The frame is of elaborate 'swept' design and is a highly unusual find in that it is almost entirely complete (no missing chunks and no areas remodelled or restored). There are a few very minor chips only, but these have been carefully reattached and in any case are barely noticeable.
One of the most complete and original used frames of its type that you could hope to find.
