Phil Greenwood Etching Aquatint 'Winter Ridge'
This is a limited edition fine art etching with aquatint, by the British artist Phil Greenwood (b. 1943) and published in 1982 by Christies Contemporary Art (CCA). Framed and Glazed and ready to hang. The publishers certificate is verso, and the front bears the number 160/250 and pencil signature of Greenwood as well as the publishers blind stamp. There are no condition issues to report.
The image size is 16 1/4 inches by 19 3/4 inches on paper 22 1/2 inches by 24 3/4 inches .
Phil Greenwood is a landscape artist who creates wonderful etching prints, having turned, in 1973 at the age of 30, from teaching and lecturing to full time professional art and printmaking. Phil Greenwood has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and abroad since the 60's. and his work is in many private and public collections, not least the Tate Gallery, Arts Council, British Council.
Phil Greenwood works mainly on copper plates. As this picture illustrates, his work is extremely economical in that he usually uses only two plates and two or three colours to achieve a great range of tone and colour by the depth of the etch and by overprinting and fusing one colour with another. His images do not always relate to a specific place - he develops and works with an amalgamation of ideas recalled. The atmosphere exemplified by the landscape is the important factor. All the latter attributes are demonstrated perfectly in this 'winters Ridge' image.
Phil Greenwood's work has been used by the National Trust as well as in books such as the Encyclopedia of Printing, Art of Drawing and Painting and articles and front cover illustrations for Leisure Painter. Unicef and H. Ling have used his work on greetings cards, Deutsche Grammophon on CDs and Sanyo featured his work on their 1995 company calendar
A regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy and the Bankside Gallery, home of the prestigious Royal Society of Painters-Etchers, he has also exhibited work at the British Embassy in Brussels La Jeune Gravure Contemporaine, Paris British Council Gallery, Athens the Victoria and Albert Museum and Tate Gallery, London Galerie Deux Tetes, Canada Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts Portfolio Gallery, Auckland, New Zealand and held major exhibitions in Tokyo and Osaka, the USA and CCA Galleries in London.
Phil Greenwood was invited to become an Associate of the Royal Society of Painters-Etchers in 1972 and elected a Fellow in 1982 Buchanan and Laing Galleries are a private client business. Appointments can be made by arrangement via email.
